Program Overview: In 2026, AISSA member schools can access the new South Australian Year One Numeracy Check, the Mathematics Assessment Interview for South Australian schools (MAI SA), a powerful, research-backed tool developed by the Department for Education SA. This one-on-one assessment uncovers students’ mathematical thinking across key domains: counting, place value, addition/subtraction, and multiplication/division. In just 15–20 minutes, teachers gain deep insights using a growth point framework to track progress.
Register now for this one-day, face-to-face training, led by Sarah Pendrey (St John’s Grammar School) and Desiree Gilbert (AISSA), designed to equip Year 1 teachers and Primary Learning/Numeracy Leaders with the skills to confidently administer the MAI SA and use results to drive targeted instruction.
Participants will learn to:
- implement the MAI SA effectively
- analyse student responses using growth points
- plan precise, data-informed teaching strategies.
This initiative is made possible thanks to the South Australian Department for Education and the Hon Blair Boyer MP, Minister for Education, Training and Skills.
Program Lead: please contact Désirée Gilbert.
