Year One Numeracy Check (MAI SA) Training Day
28th November, 2025 @ 9:00 am
Date/Time:
28/11/2025 - 9:00 am - 3:30 pm
Description:
In 2026, AISSA member schools will have access to the newly developed Mathematics Assessment Interview South Australian (MAI SA) – a powerful tool designed to support Year 1 teachers in assessing students’ mathematical knowledge, skills and thinking.
Developed by the Department for Education SA, the MAI SA is grounded in robust research and offers a structured, one-on-one interview format that explores key numeracy domains: counting, place value, addition and subtraction, and multiplication and division. The assessment takes approximately 15–20 minutes per student and provides valuable insights into student progress using a framework of growth points.
AISSA is pleased to offer a one-day face-to-face training session to support schools intending to implement the MAI SA in Term 1, 2026. This session is for Year 1 teachers and /or Primary Learning or Numeracy Leaders and will equip participants with the knowledge and confidence to administer the assessment and use the results to inform teaching and learning.
Why attend?
- Learn how to implement the MAI SA effectively in your classroom
- Understand how to interpret student responses using growth points
- Use assessment data to plan targeted support and instruction
This initiative is made possible thanks to the South Australian Department for Education and the Hon Blair Boyer MP, Minister for Education, Training and Skills. Please note: Implementation of the MAI SA Numeracy Check is optional for SA Independent Schools. Member schools may already be using an alternative assessment tool to monitor numeracy progress.
