National Teacher Certification (NTC) is a voluntary, portable and transparent process that provides formal recognition of exemplary teachers, enhances the professionalism of teachers and enables them to progress their career while remaining in the classroom. It is a rigorous and deeply reflective, but highly valued and worthwhile process. Many schools are now recognising certified teachers in their Enterprise Agreement.

National Teacher Certification as a Highly Accomplished or Lead Teacher (HALT):

  • recognises and promotes quality teaching
  • provides an opportunity for teachers to reflect on their practice and receive robust feedback
  • supports teachers to identify the impact they have on colleagues and student outcomes
  • provides a reliable indication of quality teaching to support professional growth and recognise high performing teachers and
  • is transferable to any Australian state/sector/school that supports NTC.

The SA Teacher Certification Committee (SATCC) oversees NTC in SA and the AISSA collaborates with the Department for Education and Catholic Education SA to ensure consistency and quality assurance for all SA educators who undertake NTC.

The AISSA

  • facilitates the assessment of all HALT applications from independent schools in SA and
  • provides information and professional learning to assist applicants to understand the requirements of the certification process and the roles and responsibilities of those involved.

A series of three workshops is offered each semester to support applicants to understand certification: eligibility, suitability, how to collect, curate and annotate evidence of practice at the Highly Accomplished or Lead career stages in the Australian Professional Standards for Teachers and align their classroom practice against the Classroom Practice Continuum.

Workshop A: online and available at any time through the AISSA website
Workshop B: face to face, 9:00am – 3:00pm
