For many students, deep comprehension of written texts is already a challenge. Yet to use the text as a resource for writing requires even further investigation.

This session explains the use of mentor texts to develop both reading comprehension and writing skills through the strategy of close reading.

The session will comprise three sections each approximately an hour in duration:

  1. A children’s picture book suitable for Junior Primary English
  2. A scientific explanation for Primary years Science, and
  3. fiction for Middle Years English.

In each case the language and literary resources for reading comprehension and for writing we be discussed and you will have a go at using the mentor texts as a launching point for your own little writing workshop.
