SUMMARY:Leading Change in the Teaching of Literacy\, session 2: comprehendi
 ng as a reader\, comprehending as a writer
DESCRIPTION:For many students\, deep comprehension of written texts is alre
 ady a challenge. Yet to use the text as a resource for writing requires ev
 en further investigation.\n\nThis session explains the use of mentor texts
  to develop both reading comprehension and writing skills through the stra
 tegy of close reading.\n\nThe session will comprise three sections each ap
 proximately an hour in duration:\n\n 	A children’s picture book suitable
  for Junior Primary English\n 	A scientific explanation for Primary years 
 Science\, and\n 	fiction for Middle Years English.\n\nIn each case the lan
 guage and literary resources for reading comprehension and for writing we 
 be discussed and you will have a go at using the mentor texts as a launchi
 ng point for your own little writing workshop.\n\nSession in the series:\n
