Description:

Being able to notice, respond and support students with mental health issues is a critical skill for educators today. This two day face to face Youth Mental Health First Aid (YMHFA) training teaches the skills you need to help someone you are concerned about and is very suitable for educators who work with adolescents.

Mental Health First Aid is early intervention for mental health problems. It teaches people to recognise the signs and symptoms, which suggest a potential mental health problem and how to refer appropriately. It is not designed as a prevention program nor is it a mental health promotion program, although course participants may experience beneficial mental health effects from completing mental health first aid training.

The course teaches specific categories of mental ill-health such as depression, anxiety, eating disorders, substance misuse, psychosis and how to deal with crises in young people. It includes how to recognise and assist an adolescent who may be experiencing a mental health problem or mental health crisis until appropriate professional help is received or the crisis resolves, using a practical, evidence-based action plan.

The cost of the course includes: Two days face to face training, a copy of the Youth Mental Health First Aid Manual and a certificate of accreditation for those who complete the 14 hours of training.

This is a course. By registering you are committing to attending the following sessions:
