Whistleblower Protection – The legislation and your policy requirements

3rd March, 2020 @ 4:00 pm

Date/Time:

03/03/2020 - 4:00 pm - 5:00 pm

Event Categories:

Description:

From 1 July 2019, schools which are bodies corporate (companies limited by guarantee, incorporated associations or body corporates under any law) are required to observe the provisions of the Corporations Act which relate to whistleblowing.  For large proprietary companies, there is also a requirement to have a whistleblower policy which applies from 1 January 2020.

By providing a whistleblowing policy, Schools can feel confident that they have an effective and compliant mechanism in place so employees and/or other individuals can feel confident in reporting unethical conduct, dishonest or illegal activity.

This session will provide an overview of:

  • the legislation
  • what is whistleblowing and who can be a whistleblower
  • the protections provided to whistleblowers; and
  • the kind of disclosures that are protected by the legislation
