Out of School Hours Care (OSHC): Plan Less, Do More, and Embrace the Uniqueness of ‘Your Place’

22nd March, 2023 @ 10:00 am

Date/Time:

22/03/2023 - 10:00 am - 1:00 pm

Description:

This workshop will support participants to explore how to engage in place-based learning and the many affordances for exploration in ‘their place’ to respond to children’s creativity and curious minds during extended time within the service.

What can you learn from your place? How can you listen to it? What can you give back to it?

Together participants will explore a step-by-step plan to bring children and place closer together using the natural rhythms of the day and seasons of the year. Participants will be walked through the process of how to create ‘signature programs’ that add value, diversity and excitement into their OSHC settings. They will explore ways to create a unique event that is responsive to local environment, site context and community.

At the conclusion of this workshop, participants will be resourced with:

  • a clear understanding of how to connect children with place through new rhythms and routines
  • a toolkit for creating new signature events to feature on an annual calendar and
  • resources to put in a ‘grab and go’ trolley for every day, outdoor play.

Audience: OSHC directors, OSHC assistant directors and OSHC educators

Delivery mode: face to face

Presenter: Maria Taylor, Maria Taylor Consulting
