It teaches people to recogni se the signs and symptoms which suggest a potential mental health problem and how to refer appropriately. It is not designed as a prevention program nor is it a mental health promotion program\, although course participant s may experience beneficial mental health effects from completing Mental H ealth First Aid training.\n\nThe course teaches about specific categories of mental ill-health such as depression\, anxiety\, eating disorders\, sub stance misuse\, psychosis and how to deal with crises in young people. It includes how to recognise and assist an adolescent who may be experiencing a mental health problem or mental health crisis until appropriate profess ional help is received or the crisis resolves\, using a practical\, eviden ce-based action plan.\n\nParticipants undertake two days of face-to-face f acilitated training with Vince Riviere.\n\nPlease contact Mary Pickett or Alice Duffield for more information.\n\nVincent Riviere has worked in Chil d and Adolescent Mental Health and Wellbeing in South Australia for the pa st 15 years in a variety of settings which include non-government\, govern ment and both secondary and primary school sectors.
