SUMMARY:Women in Leadership
DESCRIPTION:Why a focus on Women?\n\n“The unique context in education\,
of a lack of female leaders\, in a predominantly female workforce\,
requires exploration. This needs to be undertaken urgently\, as Australia
faces a major challenge in identifying and developing the next generation
of school leaders” (Barbara Watterston).\n\nThis program aims to support
a greater number of talented women in the sector to consider leadership
positions\, actively seek leadership opportunities\, to build motivation
and confidence to tackle leadership complexities and overcome gender
barriers.\n\nAnecdotally\, there is a sense that in our sector\, lack of
leadership aspiration or ambition is indeed an issue\, and the program
would seek to ignite aspiration.\n\nThe program would provide an
opportunity for aspirants to connect with and learn from other successful
women\, from both inside and outside of education\, to share effective
practices and lessons learned and to explore strategies for encouraging
other women into leadership.\n\nIt will also provide the opportunity for
participants to engage in a sustained work shadowing experience with an
established Principal in order to fully explore and perhaps demystify the
role.\n\n“Women in leadership have shared their frustration of being in a
role without trusted colleagues to mentor them\, without effective
orientation to the job\, without resources or release to leave school to
access professional learning.” … “autonomy and freedom that came with
the role was overshadowed by feeling as though she had to ‘muddle your
 way through’”. (Netolicky\, et al.\,2018\, p. 217)\n\nSession 1 – Why
