SUMMARY:School-wide Approaches to Supporting EAL/D Students and Families
DESCRIPTION:EAL/D students represent a growing population in Independent sc
 hools\, prompting schools to consider how best to support these students a
 nd their families.  Clear whole-school practice regarding enrolment\, com
 munication\, shared understanding\, language learning and access to the cu
 rriculum is necessary.\n\nThis two- hour workshop will assist school leade
 rs and their staff in determining best practice within their school contex
 t.  Topics covered include:\n\nEnrolment\n\n 	What information should I s
 eek and how is it obtained?\n 	How do I best engage in open and supportive
  conversation?\n 	What supports are available for families? (NAP\, Seconda
 ry School of English\, parenting support)\n 	What additional information m
 ight be relevant for new arrival and refugee families?\n\n&nbsp\;\n\nAsses
 sment and monitoring of language\n\n 	What tools and resources are availab
 le? (SA Department for Education Language and Literacy Levels\, Australian
  Curriculum EAL/D Progressions)\n 	What professional learning is available
  for staff? (CEASA\, SA Department for Education Language and Literacy Lev

 or EAL/D students?\n 	Advice within the Australian Curriculum to support r
