SUMMARY:Principles of Risk Management in Schools: Camps and excursions
DESCRIPTION:This session provides school leaders with comprehensive
 strategies to manage risks associated with school camps and excursions\,
 ensuring compliance with the Work Health and Safety Act 2012 (SA).
 Participants will gain the ability to
 systematically identify\, evaluate and mitigate potential hazards while
 upholding their duty of care obligations. By the conclusion of the
 session\, attendees will be equipped with the knowledge to plan and execute
 safe\, legally compliant offsite activities.  \n\nYour commitment: 1.5

 5:00pm.\n\nProgram Overview: This session gives school leaders practical
 insight into how the Disability Discrimination Act 1992 (Cth) (DDA) and
 Disability Standards for Education 2005 (DSE) apply to enrolments\,
 suspensions\, expulsions\, and related complaints. Participants will
 explore their legal duties to ensure students with disability are treated
 fairly\, supported appropriately\, and not unlawfully discriminated
 against. The seminar also explains the Australian Human Rights Commission
 (AHRC) complaint process and uses a case study to highlight lawful vs.
 unlawful decisions\, focusing on reasonable adjustments\, consultation\,
 procedural fairness\, and documentation.\n\nLearning Outcomes:\n\nApply
 Risk Management Processes: \n\n 	identify risks in off‑site activities
 (environmental\, behavioural\, medical\, logistical)\n 	assess risks using
 likelihood/consequence frameworks and prioritise controls\n 	implement
 measures: supervision ratios\, communication plans\, emergency protocols\,
 staff training\n 	monitor and review risks during and after
 camps.\n\nManage Staff Responsibilities and Wellbeing: \n\n
 	understand duty of care in off‑site and overnight contexts\n 	manage
 fatigue\, workload\, and supervision pressures\n 	plan rest breaks\,
 clarify roles\, and set escalation pathways.\n\nEnsure Compliance and Safe
 Practice: \n\n 	align planning with WHS duties\, SafeWork SA\, and sector
 guidance\n 	prepare staff to manage medical issues\, allergies\,
 medications\, and behavioural incidents\n 	conduct effective briefings for
 staff\, students\, and volunteers.\n\nStrengthen Culture and
 Improvement: \n\n 	use evaluations to review near misses and update risk
 assessments\n 	build a culture where staff feel supported and confident in
