SUMMARY:Navigating the First Years: Setting up Early Career Teachers for Su
 ccess\, session 4 of 5
DESCRIPTION:Successful early career teacher induction occurs within a colla
borative school culture\, in addition to intentional and contextual proces
ses that support the professional practices\, professional identity and we
ll being of the early career teacher.  Regular access to mentoring is a k
ey component of induction\, benefitting both the early career teacher and
their mentor.\n\nNavigating the First Years will scaffold both the early c
areer teacher and their mentor’s experiences in this rewarding endeavour
. Through regular professional learning over the year\, each early career
teacher will receive ongoing support focused on establishing positive rela
tionships and learning environments\, as the foundation for effective lear
ning.  Exploration of their pedagogical toolbox aims to link effective te
aching strategies and the architecture of a lesson.\n\nAn essential compon
ent is the school assigned mentor – who will work alongside their early
career teacher as they journey from Graduate to Proficient.  The thoughtf
ul pairing of mentor and early career teacher by schools sets them up for
success. Mentors will be supported in this important role through attendan
ce at one professional learning day along with video conferencing opportun
ities.\n\n‘Induction is most effective where there is a strong culture o
f collaboration and professional growth and where effective processes are
in place for all teachers to give and receive feedback on\, and evidence a
bout\, performance and be challenged and supported to learn.’ AITSL 2016
