SUMMARY:Navigating the First Years: Early Career and Mentor Teacher Program
DESCRIPTION:The quality of support early career teachers receive is
critical in helping them cope with the demands of the job\, build morale
and increase their knowledge (Buchanan et al\, 2013). Additionally\,
supporting experienced teachers to deliver practice-focused mentoring will
increase the likelihood that early career teachers will have the most
positive experience of induction (AITSL).\n\nThis program will bring early
career teachers and their mentor together over three days during terms 2
and 3. There will be opportunities for collaborative learning with invited
guests:\n\n Ben Calleja\, Growth Coaching International\, on building
reciprocal and dialogical relationships\n Bill Hansberry\, Hansberry
Educational Consulting\, supporting the development of positive student
relationships and learning environments\n Uncle John Lochowiak\,
developing our confidence to grow our cultural capacity\n AISSA Education
Team members\, exploring enacting curriculum frameworks including the new
EYLF\, the Australian Curriculum v.9 and teaching and learning in the
senior years.\n\nBreak out groups will facilitate skill building and the
sharing of experiences. Referencing the four areas AITSL identify as
critical to successful induction – Professional Practices\; Professional
Identity\; Wellbeing\; and Orientation\, early career and mentor teacher
teams will have opportunity to discuss and plan for building personal
wellbeing\, positive learning environments and teacher impact. Most of
all\, this program presents an invaluable opportunity for reciprocal
professional relationships to grow and flourish.\n\nThis is a series. By
