SUMMARY:Navigating the First Years: Early Career Teacher and Mentor Program
DESCRIPTION:Carefully designed induction processes enable early career teac
 hers to successfully navigate their first years. Effectiveness of inductio
 n programs increase as the range of supports and strategies provided incre
 ase\, with the best induction programs including practice-focused mentorin
 g\, leadership contact\, participation in collaborative networks\, targete
 d professional learning\, observation and reflection on teaching\, practic
 al information and time allocation.\n\nOf all the induction strategies ava
 ilable\, practice-focused mentoring\, by one or more expert colleagues\, i
 s particularly powerful in supporting the transition of a teacher from the
  Graduate to Proficient career stage.\n\nThe 2021 program is intentionally
  aligned to the Australian Professional Standards for Teachers. It will pr
 ovide ongoing professional learning\, growth and support to the early care
 er teacher\, in addition to specific sessions that will equip their mentor
  to build rigour into this important role. Participants will be asked to s
 et goals and actions to complete between sessions.\n\nThese two streams of
  professional activity will be carefully designed to foster an ongoing pro
 fessional relationship between the early career teacher and mentor and wil
 l blend face to face learning with videoconferencing through the use of Zo
 om.\n\nOutcomes\n\n 	Early career teachers will feel supported and success
 ful in:\n\n\n 	\n\n 	establishing positive learning environments\n 	the cr
 afting and implementation of effective teaching and\n 	their identity and 
 participation as professionals in their school community\n 	gathering evid
 ence of their practice aligned to the Proficient career stage to meet the 
 requirements for full registration with the SA TRB.\n\n\n\n\n 	Mentors wil
 l grow in their mentoring skills and confidence to support and guide their
  ECT and may align their practice to the Highly Accomplished or Lead caree
 r stage.\n 	Reciprocal professional relationships will grow between the ea
 rly career teacher and their mentor.\n\n&nbsp\;\n\nTarget audience:  Earl
 y Career Teachers (ECTs) in their first 1 - 3 years of teaching\, and the 
 ECT’s school-based mentor\n\nDelivery mode: face to face and Zoom\n\nEar
 ly Career Teachers: 1 after school Zoom session\, 4.5 face to face session
 s\nMentors: 3 after school Zoom sessions\, 1.5 face to face sessions\n\nPr

  restrictions the AISSA is required to enforce set limits on the number 
 of attendees for this event based on social distancing and maximum densi
