According to Hine (2018) enrolments in Mathematics at senior secondary level are still declining despite its critical importance for education and employment. One suggested reason for this trend is that students do not have the deep conceptual understanding and knowledge that empowers them to continue with Mathematics in senior secondary education and beyond. Therefore, continually seeking new approaches for teaching Mathematics that are focused on re-engaging, galvanising and supporting students in their mathematics and numeracy learning, is essential.
One program that may be of interest to schools for Years 5 to 10, is Maths Pathway, a program which aims to provide an “individual learning experience for every student, targeting their zone of proximal development”.
In the information session, Emily Brookes, Director of Teaching and Learning, Torrens Valley Christian School and Carmen Cibi, Mathematics Coordinator, Temple Christian College will share successes, challenges and insights related to using Maths Pathway in their schools.
