SUMMARY:Leading for High Impact School Improvement: Building Evaluative Cap
 acity\, session 1 of 4
DESCRIPTION:School improvement is both a regulatory requirement and a moral
imperative because children are entitled to the best education we can pro
vide in order to fully realise their unique potential.\n\nEmbarking on a s
chool improvement journey requires a passionate desire on the part of lead
ership to improve teaching and learning and this desire must be underpinne
d by careful planning if improvement is to be achieved. School Principals
must embrace and be prepared to drive the improvement process.\n\nIn 2021
AISSA is offering a high impact school improvement program designed to sup
port Principals and their leadership teams to undertake a structured proce
ss of school evaluation and review. Using the AISSA High Impact School Imp
rovement Tool\, consultants will support school teams to undertake a self-
assessment to enable each school to design and deliver a pathway forward
and to measure impact in one of the key domains of the tool.\n\nThis is a
one-year program. It will comprise face to face workshops and in-school su
pport. The work will culminate with a validation experience where an exper
t panel will be presented with the school’s work\, consider the progress
made and provide suggestions for next steps.\n\nSchool leadership teams a
re strongly encouraged to participate in a process which will build the in
dividual school’s capacity for evaluation and improvement and strengthen
school -based practices for planning\, implementation and evaluation.\n\n
It is anticipated this program will build the professional capital of the
Independent sector and lead to the enrichment of the School Improvement To
ol as schools provide case studies recording the diversity of the improvem
ent processes undertaken.\n\nThe series will be presented by Duncan Rintou
l who has over 20 years experience in research and evaluation consultancy.
A mixed-methodologist\, he holds a PhD from the University of Wollongong\
, a Master of Policy Studies from UNSW and a BSc in Applied Economic Geogr
aphy\, also from UNSW.\n\nDuncan has served on the board of the Australian
Evaluation Society (2012-16) and is recognised by the AMSRS as a Qualifie
d Practicing Researcher.  From 2015-19 he initiated and led a major evalu
ation capacity building project in the NSW Department of Education.\n\nSes
