SUMMARY:The Interface of Mathematics with First Nations' Histories and Cult
 ures
DESCRIPTION:Parallel to the revision of the Australian Curriculum\, new con
tent elaborations have been developed by ACARA in collaboration with the A
boriginal and Torres Strait Islander Mathematics Alliance. These elaborati
ons provide examples of how the teaching and learning of the content of Ma
thematics can be supported using contexts drawn from the Aboriginal and To
rres Strait Islander Histories and Cultures cross-curriculum priority.\n\n
Engaging in this project with Aboriginal partners will provide participati
ng schools with increased knowledge and understanding about the new Mathem
atics content elaborations and their interface with the Aboriginal and Tor
res Strait Islander Histories and Cultures cross-curriculum priority and t
he Mathematics curriculum. Through professional learning\, school-based co
aching sessions and action inquiry\, participating leaders and teachers wi
ll engage with the elaborations and explore their potential for enriching
Mathematics teaching and learning whilst providing a more culturally respo
nsive curriculum experience for students (and teachers). This project will
support the AITSL ‘Building Indigenous Cultural Competency in the Austr
alian Teaching Workforce’ project.\n\nParticipating schools will be enco
uraged to engage with local Aboriginal partners.\n\nRegistrations have now
