Funding

VET in Schools (VETiS) Funding 2010 - 2012
Vocational Education and Training programs are defined as ‘VET in Schools (VETiS) programs’ if they are undertaken as part of the Senior Secondary Certificate and provide credit towards a recognised VET qualification within the Australian Qualifications Framework. A funding contract between the Minister for Education, Employment and Workplace Relations(DEEWR) and the SA Independent Schools Targeted Programs Authority has been negotiated for a three year period, 2010 – 2012. Schools who offer VET in Schools (VETiS) programs are eligible for funding to support aspects of programs which meet the identified priority areas.
Distribution of Funds
Funds are distributed to schools in the form of grants based on an annual submission process. Schools are encouraged to integrate VET programs into the School’s strategic planning processes. Sustainability is a feature that should be addressed in relation to the projects being proposed for funding.
Priority Areas
The priority areas for action and for reporting include, at least, a mix of:
  1. developing strategies to maintain quality standards in delivery, assessment and administration of VET in Schools (including professional development).
  2. increasing the development of meaningful and quality VET programs in schools, through:
    1. establishing VETiS programs in schools not previously involved in the delivery of VET
    2. expanding the range and spread of VETiS programs offered across industry sectors
    3. establishing VETiS programs in new industry areas and in industry areas that meet local needs, and state / national skill shortages.
  3. increasing participation in VETiS by students facing barriers. This includes improving access for students in rural and remote areas and for educationally disadvantaged students including Indigenous students, young people from a culturally and linguistically diverse background and students with a disability.
  4. improving the information (including career and labour market) about a range of VETiS options and pathways through SACE or its equivalent.
  5. increasing the awareness and uptake of pathways that lead to Australian School-based Apprenticeships (ASBA) in trades, particularly those in skill shortage areas.
Data Reporting and Accountability
Schools report to AISSA each December on the activity of VETiS program in 2 ways:
1.      A Summary of Statistics of Student data
2.      An Educational Accountability of the allocated VETiS Funding Grant

Teacher Work Placement in Industry 2012 – 2013 Program

  1. This professional development project is available to Teachers (Yrs 9 – 12) in Independent Schools. Its goal is to provide opportunities to build knowledge and skill to further enhance quality delivery of curriculum and assessment of training, aiming to maximise the engagement of students, leading to successful transitions from school.
  2. To maintain professional learning aligned to current industry practice, schools with Trade Training Centres are particularly encouraged to consider this project for teachers delivering the training programs. However, applications will be considered across a range of curriculum areas.
  3. Teachers will be required to negotiate between their school and work place to spend between 5 – 10 days (equivalent of 7 hrs per day) in industry (multiple placements of at least 3 – 5 days are encouraged), related to their VET training delivery / curriculum area.
  4. Teachers retain their ‘Teacher’ status throughout the project, with the School fully responsible for duty of care, salary, insurances and associated employment costs.
  5. AISSA will provide TRT reimbursement for up to 10 days work placement (travel time to and from work- placement is not covered by TRT), plus up to 3 days administration to schools endorsing the application and supporting the staff member throughout the project.
  6. AISSA advisory support will be provided for school-endorsed applicants.
  7. This project commences July 1, 2012 with all placements and reporting requirements completed and reimbursements claimed by 30 June 2013.
