Middle Years (7-10)
MIDDLE SCHOOLING
The term ‘middle schooling’ applies generally to early adolescent students between the ages of 10-15 years in upper primary classes and lower secondary classes. Some schools have purpose-built middle schools that are separate from primary and secondary school. Middle schooling provides developmentally appropriate experiences that are responsive and appropriate to the needs of young adolescents. There is no common definition of ‘middle schooling’ with some schools covering two Year levels (Years 6-7) whilst others cover three or four Year levels (Years 6-9 or 7-10).
