EARLY CHILDHOOD

In December 2007, the Council of Australian Governments (COAG) agreed to substantial reforms in the are of education skills and early childhood development. In respect to early childhood COAG has a proposed reform agenda guided by the national strategy Investing in the early years - A National Early Childhood Development Strategy.

The four key elements of the Agenda are:

  • National Quality Standard
  • enhanced regulatory arrangements
  • a quality rating system
  • the Early Years Learning Framework (EYLF).

Australian Early Development Index (AEDI)

The Australian Early Development Index (AEDI) is a population measure of children's development in communities across Australia. The AEDI Survey was completed nationwide by teachers giving information about children's health and development in the first year of full time school. The AEDI is a measure of young children's health and development in communities across Australia.
